Consider Facebook—it’s human contact, only easier to engage with and easier to avoid. Developing technology promises closeness. Sometimes it delivers, but much of our modern life leaves us less connected with people and more connected to simulations of them. In “Alone Together”, MIT technology and society professor Sherry Turkle explores the power of our new tools and toys to dramatically alter our social lives. It’s a nuanced exploration of what we are looking for—and sacrificing—in a world of electronic companions and social networking tools, and an argument that, despite the hand-waving of today’s self-described prophets of the future, it will be the next generation who will chart the path between isolation and connectivity. Sherry Turkle is the Abby Rockefeller Mauzé Professor of the Social Studies of Science and Technology at MIT. She is frequently interviewed in Time, Newsweek, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal, on NBC News, and more. She lives in Boston, Massachusetts.

Music Composed By: Dean Krommydas – As always a very special thanks to Israel Tanenbaum for all his help and guidance in audio production! For those of you with a little more time and might be wondering how this piece came about….it was inspired from a dream I had. The visual aspect involved me finding myself in the middle of the ocean with nothing as far as the eye can see 360 degrees around….I then plunged into the “center” of the ocean and began slowly descending deeper and deeper into it. Once I hit whatever I perceived to be the bottom…I started to rise back up but slowly… finally surfacing – and then I kept rising higher and higher….past the clouds…leaving Earth behind….going further into outer space… until at the end I reached what I can only describe as “the heavens.” After I woke up I felt humbled and at peace…and for whatever reason the whole “Cosmic” experience made me think of our world and how many cultures/ethnicities it consists of… and how I might be able to capture the spirit of as many of these cultures that my sound libraries would provide. I also needed to try and convey my own musical ideas, influences, and feelings that came from the dream. So you will hear a variety of changes in intensity from serious, dark, fun/funky and hopefully heavenly….all created with ambient & electronic sounds layered in with orchestral and various ethnic instrumentation and vocals. For ex. 2-tone throat singing, Jewish chant, Bulgarian chant, sitar w …

Just another Tuesday for Jennifer…. Tuesdays are our first sparring session of 3 every week. We usually push pretty hard on tuesdays. Jennifer first 2 rounds were drilling rounds…This makes us isolate and focus usually on ONE aspect of our game. This also serves to get our minds and bodies into hard work mode, and depending on the drill, also serves to create some area of stress and even possibly fatigue as this (somewhat) simulates the stress/fatigue factors in a fight. Jennifer starts first round with kick sparring (any strikes with kicks are allowed, no punches). Partner was Vellore Caballaro. second round was all strikes, (punches, kicks, and knees) but to the body only. Partner 2 was LT Nelson. The remainder of practice was 4 x 5 mins rds full contact sparring. for us today (since we are all mma fighters) This includes everything we utilize in MMA (boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, bjj, and ground n pound) Other partners for rest of rounds were Vellore Caballaro, Taylor Phillips. The Scientist magazine announced today the winners of the ?Top 10 Innovations of 2011.? For the fourth consecutive year, The Scientist invited members of the life science community to submit descriptions of exciting tools that made an impact in research this year and asked a panel of expert judges to evaluate the technologies.
Neurobiologist Bj?rn Brembs of the Freie Universit?t in Berlin, neuronal cell biologist Michael Kiebler of Medical University of Vienna?s Center for Brain Research, Biovista president and cofounder Aris Persidis, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory biologist H. Steven Wiley reviewed more than 65 entries in the fourth annual Top 10 Innovations competition to whittle down the products to the 10 best.
This year’s winners include a suite of exciting advances in microscopy?such as two products that break through the boundaries of conventional resolution and a pocket scope that costs less than $ 10 and can be affixed to cell phones?a gadget that captures light exposure and activity to generate data on circadian rhythms, a 360-degree imager that can detect biomolecules in live animals, and a mini MRI machine that negates the need for lead-lined rooms and expert technicians.
Claiming the top spot in the competition is University of California, Los Angeles, electrical engineer Aydogan Ozcan for his Lensless, Ultra-wide-field Cell monitoring Array platform based on Shadow imaging (LUCAS), a microscope that can hook onto a cell phone, costs less than $ 10, and could become a boon to research efforts in the developing world. Second prize goes to BioFLECT, a 360-degree optical imager made by Bioscan that uses a rotating ring of 48 detectors to generate 3-D images of fluorescent markers in live animals. In third place is Idaho Technology Inc.’s FilmArray system, which simplifies sample prep to the point that a 9-year-old can perform PCR reactions.
?The 2011 winners represent an exceptional combination of ingenuity and technical advances,? said Mary Beth Aberlin, Editor-in-Chief.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????11??????????????? Kitakyushu, Kyushu’s northernmost city and an international city with a million people, borders on the main island of Japan across the Kanmon Strait. Kitakyushu is near the Asian countries, and particularly because it is conveniently located on the straight line connecting Tokyo and Shanghai, has been blessed with prosperity as a gateway to Asia and as an industrial base in Japan. Today, Kitakyushu is advancing diverse activities under the key word ‘internationalization’ on the basis of the fundamental plan of the ‘Kitakyushu Renaissance,’ whose basic concept is ‘Toward Becoming an International and Technological City with Waterfront, Green Environment and Human Contact.’ Kitakyushu, an international, industrial and trade city with a population of one million, was established in February 1963 by the equal-basis amalgamation of five cities: Moji, Kokura, Wakamatsu, Yahata and Tobata. In around 1600, the Kitakyushu Area was spotlighted for the first time in history. Kokura Castle was constructed during that time and the area subsequently prospered as a castle town becoming the center of governmental and commercial activities in Kyushu. The Meiji government, formed in the latter half of the 19th century, noted the geographic advantages of the Kitakyushu area which had …

(Close Captions) Earth Transformation: New Science, Consciousness and Contact Conference, May 17, 2008, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Exopolitics Journal 2:4 (2008). ISSN 1938-1719. Luis Fernando comes from Bolivia. He has had contact with extraterrestrials from the planets Venus, and Ganymede, which is one of the moons of Jupiter. And he has also had contact with the Inner Earth Beings the Elders, who are those associated with the Great White Brotherhood. He has been having physical contact experiences since birth. In 1977, when he was 13, he began to speak about these experiences, and he continues to do so to this day. For over 30 years now hes been speaking with great authority about his experiences. And for decades hes been holding Contact Preparation Courses in the countries of South America Argentina, Chile, Peru, Paraguay, El Salvador, and Central America in Honduras, Costa Rica, in Mexico, in the US, and, of course, Bolivia. Hes published five books wherein he shares these experiences that he has had with extraterrestrials.Luis has demonstrated that his experiences are real by inviting members of the press, some from the TASS Agency, to watch “programmed UFO sightings.” Luis Fernandos conference presentation was spoken in Spanish, and was translated by Manuel Roberto. All attempts have been made to transcribe this presentation as accurately as possible …
